Aw, damn it. I wanted this thing so much!
Look – someone had a bunch of her friends each draw, etch, and otherwise decorate a wooden fan. The work is incredible – each slat glorius on its own.

I bid as high as was reasonable for a mere decorative object. We agreed that we could at least spend as much as we did on his Roman artifact. In the end, my generous bid was knocked out by someone willing to spend twice as much. I shall remember this item as the “one that got away”. It’s insanely lovely, romantic, and sweet. I do hope the winner appreciates it and doesn’t merely consider it a trinket.
But I am about to receive a few interesting items – Ebay is all about the hunt, after all. For me, Shelley China (Ludlow shaped Rose Pansey Forget-me-not pattern) is prime. 1940’s hankies are choice, and Wolford hosiery a staple.
But that fan? Once in a lifetime, folks. So long, fancy.

Gawd awful is what I call it…all this “much ado about nothing”. I was 14 when I first noticed that what we were being shown in politics was nothing like what they meant. From that day forward I decided to withdraw from the matter entirely. I think it has been the best choice – particularly considering the offerings we’ve had to choose from in my voting lifetime.

I like Billy’s post, too, acquired too late for the previous entry here. Emphasis my own:

“It’s wonderful to see Field Marshal Rodham getting kicked in the teeth in South Carolina. What’s awful is the hysteria surrounding Obama. Over a whole lifetime of listening to it, one can get used to the whoops of crowds resounding to patent horseshit phoning out of the mouths of these anglers. It’s just part of the drill every four years: they say as much of nothing as possible in wholesale lots, and then reap the cheapest possible sentiments of human mash. A rational person cannot listen to it, except in the spirit of estimating storms on the horizon.”

Indeed, the coming storm…and the bulwark against it? Likely these – and more besides.

They know the value of words, oaths, promises, and vows. The price one might have to pay. In every town, every city, they walk among us with memories they can only tell each other.

I’ve more respect for the newest Private shining tight boots than for any of the fools on parade for an office for which they’ve no respect. No comprehension of what they wield and for whom. And we, forgetting that we were supposed to be wise – supposed to never forget that we held those reins and were to rattle that bit in their mouths. When did we all forget that? What happened that we went from being the most self-sufficient group of people to being the smallest minded grasping idiots that we seem to be now?

It is no great experiment. It is the very last bastion of…freedom. And we’re tossing it away with the thought that at least “our” guy will fuck the rest of them. It’s not what they meant, those poor bastards in American history. They meant for each of us to work for what we wanted and to hold it against all comers for as long as we wished. Unmolested. Without…without looking like maniacs for thinking that way.

I truly believe that it is all going to go away – all civility and manners are fleeing. All consideration and kindness. Not long after departs Reason. Leaving…animals. And you have already seen them, I know. Each of us have met that breed just going about our lives. If what I believe comes to fruition you shall need a bullet for each one.

Stock up. Against the coming storm.

Politics – bleh

OK! So there are a lot of interesting tidbits here and there on the net. So let me start with…

It’s a lovely bit of work (though I do wish she hadn’t been so leery of the loser at the museum and gotten dead in his shit) but I think this final paragraph almost slices the prior to pieces.

“Don’t sell your vote. Don’t vote for anyone who wants to buy it.Good luck with that.”

Nuff said – ain’t nobody out there clean enough, nobody who DOESN’T want the job.

Of course, there’s the beloved Rachel and the grand news that Sunny Lucas is standing tall for America – even if it’s on 4 feet.

But truthfully…this is a platform I could get behind – er, stand on – um, with…well, whatever, I like it. More to the point, Ranger likes it. Look – wouldn’t he make a fine coin? Majestic!

Well, I left that post up as long as I dared. Written in a fit of pique, I knew it would likely cause trouble eventually so best to give it a short life. Of course, in truth it’s somewhere out there still. I don’t care THAT much – just enough to do the easiest thing.

And now…well, it’s been a busy morning. Took the pony (AKA his dog) to the state park for a hike and we had a blast. He got to smell until he could smell no more and we both got a needed stretch of the legs. He’s crashed now.

But I am considering…this home office is in dire need of a complete revamp. Nothing is in a good location. But it means taking down all the computers, shoving a mountain of paper aside and then reorganizing cords, papers and all. Sigh…well, no one else is going to do it, are they? LOL

It is times like this that I wish I was Christina. What a brilliant lady and what fine taste…I also wish I was Joan and headed off to see the museums in DC. It’s green with envy I am…

In other news – a few movies I hope to snag soon… “I Remember Mama” (so sweet and simple) and “84 Charing Cross Road“.

As for the music to organize to? Why, Great Big Sea, of course. Nothing else will rouse me. Enjoy, friends and relations…

I have a theory on the latest kerfuffle betwixt Hildebeast and Obamarama. They will throw punches at each other over and over. This “racial strife” just another bit of shadow puppetry. Because in a few months they will “mend fences” and “find a way to communicate” and “all just get along”. So that they can share a ticket and win.

My suspicions have always been that they’ve planned this all along – every “misstep” and argument, every debate and interview. Even those alligator tears. It isn’t even important to them who gets top billing. Just as long as they’re in the place of power.

Of course, I believe the entire mess of the electoral process is flawed, fixed, faked and foolish. You see it in microcosm in your local podunk affairs – Joe Bob had inmates making BBQ’s. But they were some damned nice BBQ’s, damn it! Pfft. It’s squalor and a stench that is almost never swept clear and never a breeze blows through the miasma. So…take care of your own. That’s my advice.

Prepare for and be ready to hold what you’ve got against the coming storm. There’s no ark to hold you, no flights out. I could be wrong but…I seriously do not think so.

And so it began…

It was 1914 and Karen Blixen was, this date, stepping off the boat in Mombasa and headed toward her wedding at the Muthaiga Club.

Later she would have come up that long drive to the place she called home. And the place in which she would finally become

herself and find that voice through which we now know her.

How wonderful for us all that she made the journey.

About The House

So…it was a relatively quiet day as I worked from home and performed doggy daycare duties. I don’t feel right crating him all day so if our schedules don’t work out, I try to be home.

Of course, he tormented me and the cats all day long. Why do you ask? But he did get a very necessary bath. He’s good about it – doesn’t mind at all – but could be a bit more still. Likes to chew the water as though he was in Bull Creek again.

Poor Jonesy was chased around all day. This appears to be a knighting ceremony but was actually an “encounter”.

Jonesy isn’t afraid of him, really, except that he tries to play with her as though she were a large dog. Poor thing – she is so good natured about it.

Acquired some lovely rib eyes from the local BBQ/butcher shop and have them salted and awaiting the grill. Some “slicey taters” and asparagus are waiting as are his favorite broiled tomatoes w/ Parm. Which reminds me to get the Parm ready. And then some homemade blackberry cobbler for dessert. It’s his long weekend so we try to make it a bit special.

Otherwise, not that much going on…looking for some property and trying to plan the weekend. I happen to be hoping the dog care shifts a bit to the Lord and Master so that I can chill out.

So what’s on your menu?

P.S. Dear God, ignore the mess in the photo…cats = crappy furniture or covered furniture…and Me = terrible housekeeping. Oh, the shame…
